  1. Facebook is evil!

    April 28, 2011 by June:Wow

Our event got too popular and Facebook marked it as spam! We’ve set up a new page, so you can refer to it for information. We apologise for all the hassle, but would appreciate if you could RSVP again, so we can be better informed about how much food/drinks/excitement to stock. SEE YOU THERE!

Check out the awesome logo designed by Khang’zKanvaz!

There will be a photography exhibition and concert which will take place at the LoyarBurok Rakyat Centre on the 15th May 2011 and will feature photography of pre-tsunami Japan by photojournalist Colin Boyd Shafer (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Colinizing-Photography/52277639643) .

Colin visited Sendai two months before the tsunami hit and many of his beautiful photos depict the affected areas, some of which have since completely changed.

Two other artists have also offered to donate their photos of Japan to add variety to the work on display. They are local artist Chitoo (who will be donating photos of his unique observations of Tokyo) and music journalist/musician Ben Liew (who will be donating music photography of the indie music scene in Japan).

At the exhibition, all these photos will be made available for sale and all proceeds from the sales will go to Japanese Red Cross Society (http://www.jrc.or.jp/english/index.html).

The event will be emcee-d by the gorgeous Miss World Malaysia 2010 Nadia Heng (http://www.nadiaheng.com/).

There will be star-studded line-up including:

    Reza Salleh (http://www.rezasalleh.net/)
    Azmyl Yunor (http://yat.ch/yunor/)

    Cats In Love (http://www.myspace.com/catsinloveband)

Throughout the exciting evening, there will also be various fun-filled activities including:

    1) Photo Wall – a giant photo wall will be set up with 8″ x 10″ mat-board framed prints. These will be numbered (for the LUCKY DRAW -Oh yeah!) and sold at RM25 each.

    2) LUCKY DRAW!!! – (oh ya)Not only will you be supporting this incredible cause by purchasing the prints, you will also stand a chance to win INCREDIBLE prizes! These include: cases of Asahi Beer (24cans), bottles of sake, JUSCO cash vouchers, CDs, t-shirts, assorted unique LoyarBurok merchandise and loads more!

    3) Postcard & Haiku writing – Volunteers from Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia (JAGAM) will be at hand to help you write messages to tsunami victims in JAPANESE.

    4) Video messages – Japanese interpreters will translate your video messages to Japan. These videos will be uploaded to YouTube and shared with everyone in the known and unknown universe(s)!

    5) Vintage video games – We’ll have a bunch of vintage consoles (remember Sega Genesis and CARTRIDGES?) in our arcade, so come over and play some Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Pacman, Tetris, and much more!

    6) Origami table – Cranes are a symbol of hope, so come and make some. All cranes will be told to fly East to spread hope to Japan after the event. But why stop at cranes? You can also make dinosaurs, bears, 3 storey bungalows, Ultraman, etc!

    7) Costume display – the Japan Foundation has graciously loaned us some cool Japanese traditional costumes, and these will be worn/displayed by various personalities at the event!

Drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and light food (no big dolphins will be sacrificed) will be available for purchase at the event. For those of you hungry hippos there will be more available at Restoran “Gourmet Mamak” Fatima downstairs.

This event is brought to you exclusively and inclusively by JuneWow Events (http://www.junewow.com/) and supported by the only bLAWg Loyar Burok (http://www.loyarburok.com/).

  3. Sending Love to Sendai

    April 22, 2011 by June:Wow

I’m currently planning an event to raise money for Tsunami victims in Japan. My friend Colin visited the affected areas just before the Tsunami hit and took some beautiful shots of the place. We’ll be hosting an exhibition on 15th May 2011 at Pusat Rakyat LoyarBurok to sell the photos – all proceeds will go to Japan Red Cross. Apart from photos, there will also be live music, food, and a host of other exciting activities including a lucky draw where you can win some totally awesome prizes! I hope you will join us in supporting a good cause and have fun at the same time.

If you’d like to volunteer to help out, send an email tojunewow [at] gmail [dot] com .

It’s all very exciting, and coming together nicely. I’ll post more details soon, so watch this space!
